AN accident involving a tipper lorry and three cars on the A1(M) southbound carriageway near Durham caused long delays for motorists on Thursday morning.
The accident happened between Junction 62, A690 (Carrville), and Junction 61, A688 Tursdale Road (Bowburn).
Queues stretched over eight miles leading to delays of over an hour for motorists.
The road has now been cleared and all lanes reopened.
A Durham Police spokesperson said: "Highways England informed officers of a collision just involving a van and three cars at about 7.48am.
"No-one was injured. The road was reopened at 9.50am."
