A PERSON was found dead on railway tracks at South Bank station on Tuesday morning.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: "Officers were called to South Bank station at 6.37am this morning following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended and a person has sadly been pronounced dead at the scene.

"Officers are currently working to identify them and establish the circumstances of how they came to be on the tracks."

A file will be prepared for the coroner.

Rail services between Redcar and Middlesbrough were cancelled or delayed as emergency services dealt with the incident.
