AN owl has had a lucky escape after it survived getting hit by a car.
The tawny owl was rescued early Sunday morning by police officers in Bishop Auckland.
Officers took the bird to Wilson Veterinary Group in Bishop Auckland and said they are keeping their fingers crossed for a positive outcome.
The owl is believed to have sustained an eye injury and has been taken to a specialist facility for treatment.
