HOUSING developers have claimed their plan to build ten three-bedroom dormer bungalows on land next to a main gateway to a historic market town will have a “positive effect” on the town’s setting.

The plans submitted by Gladglider Ladycross Ltd to Hambleton District Council follow residents raising numerous concerns over the scale and style of developments on the fringes of Stokesley.

Some residents say Stokesley has seen its fair share of development in recent years, while others believe the essence of the town remains unharmed as it has a clear town centre.

The developer said the proposal for a site north east of Stokesley Leisure Centre would reuse vacant land and would soften the impact of the leisure centre. It added the scheme would also help prevent issues such as trespassing and fly-tipping on the site and address a shortage of bungalows in the area.

A spokesman for the firm said the homes would improve the amenities enjoyed by neighbouring properties.

He said: “This is an opportunity to remove a bad neighbour use and to introduce a quality scheme into this area in need of redevelopment.”

The developer added the proposal had been carefully considered in order to create a high-quality design.

No comments have yet been submitted on the proposals.
