POLICE are searching for a missing 50-year-old man who was last seen in the Newcastle area.

Graham Scaife of Boroughbridge, near Harrogate in North Yorkshire, was last seen in the city on Thursday (August 1).

Mr Scaife, who was originally reported missing to police on Wednesday (July 31), has been described as a white man, 6ft tall with short and dark brown hair, regularly wearing glasses.

Police said his family were now worried about Mr Scaife, while they said it was "out of character" for the missing man to be out of contact for several days.

A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said: "Graham’s family are very worried about him and officers appeal direct to him that if he sees or hears this appeal, to please get in touch with family, friends, or the police and let us know that you are safe.

"Or if you prefer, you can call the missing people charity confidentially on 116000, who will pass on a message."

Police said they were also appealing to public sector workers and passengers who may have been using public transport, at the time, in Newcastle.

Mr Scaife was last seen wearing a dark coloured shirt.
