SUMMER show season is hotting up with a host of events celebrating the region's agricultural heritage taking place in the coming days.

This Saturday, July 27 marks the return of the biggest one-day agricultural show in the North-East as the Cleveland Show takes over Stewart Park in Middlesbrough.

The Show is now it its 76th year and promises a fun day out for all the family with attractions including the Jamie Squibb Freestyle Motocross Arena Stunt Show, a bicycle stunt team and Faravale Gun Dogs who are appearing for the first time in the main ring.

The team will also hold a fun over-the-bales scurry with the public invited to bring their own dogs and have a go.

There will also be all the usual classes for horses, cattle, sheep, goats, vintage machinery, small mammals, pigeons and poultry, along with a new home baking section this year.

In North Yorkshire, the Aldborough and Boroughbridge Show returns to Newby Hall, near Ripon on Sunday, July 28

It is the third year that the event is being held at Newby, although the show itself dates back 106-years.

Stuart Gill, the Hall's commercial director, said: “We are delighted to welcome back the Aldborough and Boroughbridge Show back to Newby.

"It is known as ‘the small show with the big personality' as it is such a fantastic family day out, with something for everyone to enjoy.”

Amongst the many things the show has to offer this year will be equine classes, sheep shearing demonstrations, donkey rides, craft stalls, trade stands, vintage cars and much more.

In Knayton, near Thirsk, the Borrowby Show takes place at the Hillside Rural Activities Park on Wednesday, July 31 for its 71st outing.

The show has a warm community feel which secretary Sue Seddon says is something it prides itself on.

She added: "We have had excellent entries, it is our highest ever with online entries coming through which is really positive.

"We would like a nice sunny, dry day and for lots of people to come along and enjoy themselves, particularly when the children's fun classes and dog shows take place later in the day.

"We are very much a family friendly show and want people to have fun."

The following weekend, Saturday, August 3 is the Osmotherley Show which is now in its 111th year.

There are horse and pony classes, including show jumping and gymkhana, along with cattle and sheep classes, dog show, sheep dog trials and fell racing. The gates open for the shows from 10am.
