A PEDESTRIAN is in hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a van on Monday morning. 

The woman remains in a serious condition following the incident which took place on North Road West, Wingate, County Durham, shortly after 12am. 

She was struck by a Citroen Dispatch van as it turned left onto the alleyway between number 35 and 36. 

Ambulance crews assisted police in removing the injured woman from under the vehicle before taking her to James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough. 

A spokesperson for Durham police said: “We would like to hear from any witnesses who were in the area at the time or to anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.”
