TOWNSFOLK enjoyed a carnival atmosphere as an international flavour was brought the streets of Spennymoor, at an annual gala, on Saturday.
There was a global theme for those taking part in Spennymoor Gala Parade, as schools and community groups adopted the flags and costumes of different countries of the world, among them France, the UK, Brazil, Spain and Kenya.
The parade wound its way round the town to the Jubilee Park, where there was all the fun of the fair plus other attractions.
Among the parade participants were members young and old of the revived Spennymoor Blue Tigers juvenile jazz band, which was revived for last year’s gala.
They included Julie Wilson, one of the band’s ‘old girls’, who is also a member of the gala’s voluntary committee.
She said the atmosphere was “buzzing”, both in the town streets and the park, as the 64th gala lived up to tradition.
“It was absolutely outstanding and we would like to thank all the voluntary groups and schools who took part.”
The event was backed by the town council and Spennymoor Area Action Partnership.
