A MAN is fighting for his life after being hit by a car in Sunderland.

The 27-year-old was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after being hit by a car in Premier Road, Sunderland shortly before 9pm on June 30.

It happened at the junction with Silksworth Lane.

The man remains in critical condition.

Police are now investigating the incident and a possible link with an earlier hit and run on the same road.

A vehicle matching the car's description is believed to have failed to stop after colliding with a Toyota Yaris.

Sergeant Ray Lowery, of Northumbria Police’s Motor Patrol Department, has appealed for anybody with information about the incidents to come forward.

“This was an incredibly serious incident that has left a man in hospital with life-threatening injuries.

“We’re looking for potential witnesses or dashcam footage of either incident that could assist with our investigation.

“I would ask those people to come forward and pass on any information, as we look to determine exactly what happened.”
