A MAJOR police investigation has been launched after a a man was stabbed in Darlington on Monday night.

An area of Cockerton Green has been sealed off throughout the day as crime scene investigators worked at the scene.

A 19-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Pools of blood could be seen on the pavement outside the house and neighbours confirmed the emergency services were called just before midnight.

One neighbour said: “It was me who called 999 ­– the lad didn’t look to well when he was in the back of the ambulance.”

Another nearby resident said: “The police were on the scene when I went to work this morning. The people who rent the house where the police were working are always having parties with music blasting out ­– no-one seems to know exactly what has happened yet.”

Durham Police spokeswoman said: “Officers were called to reports that a man had been stabbed in Cockerton, Darlington, in the early hours of this morning, July 2.

“A 35-year-old man was treated at the scene and taken to James Cook University Hospital. He remains in a serious condition.

“A 19-year-old woman has been arrested and is currently in police custody while an investigation is ongoing.

“This was an isolated incident and we would like to reassure the community that we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.”
