A LITTLE girl with Leukaemia is looking forward to the holiday of a lifetime with her family following the support of a local charity which helps youngsters and adults with cancer.

Daisy Sayers, three, was diagnosed with the blood cancer in December 2017 and has been undergoing treatment at Newcastle RVI which is due to finish in April 2020.

Her mum, Melissa Sayers, from Peterlee, said thanks to the generous support of Bishop Auckland-based charity Bringing Back a Smile, the family were going to Disney World Florida next year.

She said: "Daisy is doing really well and is now in the final phase of her treatment. We were introduced to Kevin Hill who runs Bringing Back a Smile just over a year ago the we have been so humbled by the support we have received."

Mr Hill said the charity had raised £2,500 for the trip to Disney World, with the final £500 being raised at Thirsk Truck Gathering, which saw more than 60 trucks running in a special convoy on the A1 for Daisy and her family to watch from a bridge over the motorway.

Mrs Sayers added: "The charity is fantastic and we will be forever grateful to them for everything they have done.

"It has been a difficult time for us as a family, it has been awful and I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

"Our elder daughter Poppy, eight, is also very excited about the holiday, and both girls loved the Truck Gathering."

Charity founder Mr Hill said: "We rely on the generosity of the public to donate prizes. We are also grateful to the truckers, the organisers of the Thirsk Truck Gathering, and to our team working out of Thirsk.

"The truckers who got involved have got such big hearts."
