DETECTIVES investigating an alleged rape have thanked the public after receiving 'a number of calls' following a police appeal.
At about 10am on Friday, June 21, police received a report that a 30-year-old woman had been attacked in Byker, Newcastle.
She was allegedly raped in bushes behind a bus stop on Bothal Street.
Detective Inspector Paul Young of Northumbria Police said nobody had been arrested at this stage but a number of enquiries are still ongoing.
He said: "A number of calls have come in from members of the public who believed they may have information useful to our enquiry and we are looking into each one.
“We would continue to encourage anyone who was in the Byker area on Friday morning to think hard about whether they may have seen the person responsible.
"He is described as white, aged in his late 20s and with a distinctive pointed nose."
"He was wearing dark coloured shorts and a matching jacket."
Witnesses can contact officers on 101 quoting log 284 21/06/19 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800-555111.
