A FORMER policeman bragged about his BMW and his flight instructor role while grooming a 14-year-old girl, a court heard.

David Waller, who is standing trial at Teesside Crown Court, is accused of carrying out a string of sexual offences on eight alleged victims over a 12-year period.

Today, the second complainant told the court that Waller started contacting her through MSN messenger where he bragged about his new BMW, his police job and his flight instructor role before he persuaded her to meet up with him.

She said the pair went Redcar before returning to an address in Thornaby where he had sex with the schoolgirl while he was aged 21 or 22.

During a recorded police interview, she said: “He pulled down my trousers and got on top of me and we started having sex. At the time I didn’t tell him to stop, I had tried making my excuses to leave but it didn’t work.

“I told him it hurt because I hadn’t been with a man before.

“I was in quite a bit of pain – he’s wasn’t very gentle. I went home and I didn’t tell anyone, I never saw him again.”

Under cross examination from Nicholas Lumley QC, the witness denied that she had ‘jumped on a bandwagon’ when she came forward with her allegations.

She said: “It has affected my work, it has affected by home life – to say that I’m jumping on a bandwagon – the affect it has had on my life, I think it would be a big deal to say that I’m jumping on any bandwagon.”

When asked why she had become friends on Facebook with Waller after the alleged attack, she replied: “At the time you don’t understand the severity of what occurred, if anything, I was flattered by his advances. At the time, I obviously didn’t report it because I didn’t see the severity of it (what happened).

“I didn’t hold it against him at the time.”

When quizzed about her motive coming forward, she said to help the other alleged victims to secure justice."

The 33-year-old is accused of carrying out a catalogue of abuse on teenage girls, including three charges of rape, over a 12-year period.

Waller, of Autumn Grove, Stockton, denies all charges which allegedly took place between December 2004 and April 2016.

Teesside Crown Court heard he met some of his alleged victims through his roles with Cleveland Police, as a flying instructor and various theatre groups between 2004 and 2016.

Waller also denies three counts of inciting underage girls to engage in sexual activity, and three of meeting or attempting to meet a child following sexual grooming. He has also pleaded not guilty to two counts of sexual activity with a child, and one of sexual assault, as well as a misconduct charge.

The trial continues.
