A TEENAGER who slashed a fellow party-goer across the face with a knife is to be psychiatrically assessed for his perceived “dangerousness”.

It follows comments by a senior judge who fears that with his mounting record, at the age of only 19, Jordan Lee Boyle could end up in a court dock facing a murder charge.

Boyle appeared at Durham Crown Court, via video link from the city prison, charged with wounding with intent.

It stems from an incident at a 16th birthday party staged at a house in South Moor, Stanley, on February 16.

Chris Baker, prosecuting, said among the guests were three relatives of the host, all aged 19 and from the Kenton area of Newcastle.

Two of them were thought to be carrying knives.

Boyle approached one and said: “What the f*** have you got a knife for?”

He told him he didn’t realise how dangerous they can be, to which the visitor said: “I’m from Kenton.”

Boyle said: “Oh, you’re one of those Kenton ‘Bad Boys’. Use your fists, man!”

He told him he stabbed someone when he was 13 and still had dreams about it, adding: “One of you’s will end up getting slashed or stabbed up tonight.”

His words proved prophetic as, with tension mounting, Boyle went to the kitchen, armed himself with a bread knife and used it to slash one of the Kenton trio, as he sat in a chair.

The court heard he suffered slash wounds across the face and cheek for which he has suffered deep psychological scarring, affecting his mood and personality.

Boyle, of Rydal Avenue, South Moor, who initially claimed it was, “excessive self-defence”, admitted the charge at a recent hearing.

Having been told of Boyle’s previous offences of violence, Deputy Circuit Judge Paul Worsley QC said he would not pass sentence without the prior preparation of a psychiatric report.

“I specifically want it to address the dangerousness of this young man and his previous violent history.”

The judge told Boyle: “I’m concerned if your conduct goes on as it has, there is a danger you will be appearing before a court on a charge of murder.

“I stress, I have not made up my mind as to the sentence, but I want the best information before me, so the sentence is the appropriate one.”

Boyle will remain remanded in custody pending sentence in about six weeks.
