A FATHER and “loving” daughter have died following a serious car crash with an 18-year-old man arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving in connection with the incident.

Mother-of-two Sarah Liddell, 41, was driving a black Hyundai I30 with her father, Michael Liddell, 68, travelling as a passenger at around 12.05pm on Thursday, June 13.

The pair were involved in a crash with a blue BMW 330i driven by an 18-year-old man who is currently in police custody.

Emergency services were called to the incident involving the two vehicles on on the roundabout junction with Middlesbrough Road and the A171 at Guisborough, near to the Co-Op petrol station

Mr Liddell, from Moorsholm, east Cleveland, was pronounced dead at the scene. His daughter, Ms Liddell, from Marske, sustained serious injuries in the crash and died on Friday morning at the James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough.

A Cleveland Police spokeswoman said: “Sarah is described by her family as a loving mother-of-two, partner, daughter and sister. Her family have asked for privacy at this difficult time.

“The 18-year-old male driver of the BMW has been arrested on suspicion of two counts of causing death by dangerous driving. He remains in police custody at this time.

“The road remained closed until around 7.15pm yesterday, whilst police carried out their enquiries.

“Any witnesses that have not already spoken to police are asked to contact Inspector Darren Breslin from the Cleveland and Durham Specialist Operations Unit on the non-emergency number 101, quoting event number 098710.”
