POLICE are looking for four or five men believed to have been involved in the thefts and attempted thefts from three cash machines.

In the early hours of Wednesday morning, three cash machines in York and Harrogate were targeted for money.

At around 1.20am, police were called to reports of a break-in at the Starbeck Post Office in Harrogate where thieves successfully forced the machine open and making off with cash.

At around 3.56am, a second incident was reported at the Colliergate Post Office in York.

Police said they were still investigating to determine the amount of money taken.

Elsewhere in York, a further incident was only reported to police when staff arrived to start their shift at the Co-op on Hull Road at 6.23am.

Shutters were damaged at the premises but police said the suspects did not manage to leave with any money.

Police said they had reason to believe the three incidents were linked.
