A MAN has been arrested after a police chase resulted in a forced stop in Newton Aycliffe yesterday.
The 26-year-old made off from police in Bishop Auckland earlier in the day before he was spotted on the A68 near Newton Aycliffe.
Following a pursuit, the driver of the dark grey Insignia was stopped using police tactics on Long Tens Way, in Aycliffe Business Park, at 4.15pm.
A statement from Durham Police said: “Police were called to reports of a domestic incident at around 11am near Riverside, Bishop Auckland yesterday morning (June 11).
“The suspect made off from the address in a dark grey Insignia.
“Following enquires, the vehicle was located on the A68 near Newton Aycliffe and police tactics were used to bring the vehicle to a safe stop at around 4.15pm. Nobody received any injuries.
“A 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage, failure to stop, dangerous driving, control and coercive behaviour, possession of a controlled drug and driving under the influence of drugs.
“He remains in police custody.”
The road was closed for a period of time whilst the Insignia and a damaged police car were recovered.
