POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a man was punched twice in the head in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The incident happened between Rougier Street and Station Road in York at around 4.15am.
Police said a victim in his 30s was knocked unconscious and sustained bleeding to his nose.
Investigating, police said a suspect in his early 20s with blond or ginger hair was seen wearing a black zip-up jacket with light blue and black trainers.
A man was arrested in connection with the incident, but was released pending further enquiries.
A police spokesperson said: "We are requesting the public’s assistance to help establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
"In particular, we are appealing for information from a black taxi cab seen driving when the victim fell to the ground after being punched to the head. "We are also appealing for the victim to come forward to be spoken to regarding the assault."
