RUNNERS have gathered on the start line for this year's Race for Life in Darlington.

Thousands of people have taken part in the 5k run in South Park, which raises money for Cancer Research UK, in glorious sunshine.

Fortunately for those taking part, the heavy rain from yesterday which forced the cancellation of the Seaham Food Festival and Durham Regatta has cleared, allowing perfect conditions for running.

The route begins by following the River Skerne, before crossing Parkside into the Meadows and then coming back into South Park by Squirrel Hill, the bandstand and the bowling green.

The meeting point is the open grass area of South Park, in front of the pond.

There are many points around South Park, within walking distance from the start and finish lines, that friends and family will be able to see those taking part.
