The Seaham Food Festival has been cancelled on Saturday due to the 'horrendous' weather, but will be back on Sunday, organisers have announced.

A Durham County Council spokesperson said: "Organisers of Seaham Food Festival have taken the very difficult decision to cancel today’s events due to the horrendous weather.

"Extremely heavy rain over the region left Durham County Council with no option but to call off today’s activities.

"However with a more positive weather forecast for Sunday, the festival is set to go ahead as planned.

"Anyone with tickets for today’s Gingo Gin School or Little Dots Dishes will be contacted today by the organisers to re-book for tomorrow or offered a refund."

Oliver Sherratt, the council’s head of environment, said: “We were all really looking forward to the festival today, our first food festival in Seaham, and are extremely disappointed to have had to cancel today’s events.

“The weather forecast for tomorrow is much better and Sunday’s programme is planned to go ahead. We hope to see everyone down here tomorrow.

“We’re really sorry for any inconvenience today’s cancellation has caused but this awful weather really left us with no choice.”
