POLICE have issued a warning to motorists to slow down whilst they deal with collisions across the county.

The warnings came as a grey BMW crashed into a central reservation on the A1 near Ripon, North Yorkshire on Tuesday.

The 'stranded' BMW could not be moved under its own power as the crash caused damage to steering and suspension.

Responding to the incident, police blocked the 'outside' lane with fully-marked police cars, but officers reported vehicles were not slowing down to change lanes.

Police said cars were seen driving at 70mph, and trucks driving 'too their limit', before slamming on their brakes to a complete stop before attempting to move to the middle lane.

A North Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: "When you see emergency vehicles, recovery vehicles or the such like working on the road please give us some courtesy and some space.

"We all have families to go home to.”

  • It is understood that no-one was injured in the crash.
