A NORTHERN delicacy will be the toast of new night markets set to light up Darlington's street food scene this summer.

Speciality stalls heaving with fresh produce and artisan makes are being prepared for the launch of Pease Pudding Night Markets on Thursday, with a wide range of food and drink on offer.

The new market is expected to revel in the success of the new Farmer's Market, which was set up on Sunday along West Row. Customers enjoyed shopping, street food and live entertainment at the event, which also offered a covered seating area to shelter from poor weather.

The Farmer’s Market will return on the first Sunday of each month throughout summer, organised by Darlington Market Asset Management.

The markets are the latest offerings from the retail developers that assumed control of the town's historic indoor and outdoor markets in 2017. Since taking on the assets, the Darlington Food and Drink Festival has also been launched in the town.

Market manager Alexandra Nicholson said: “The feedback we received from the Food and Drink Festival was that Darlington residents overwhelmingly want to see more of these events taking place in the town.

“We are excited to launch the Pease Pudding Markets to meet this demand, stimulate the evening economy, and bring street food nights to Darlington for the whole family to enjoy."

Some of the stalls on offer on Thursday between 4pm and 9pm will be the Hole in the Wall, Spud Gun Loaded Fries, The Falafel Fella, Little Korean, On the Goa, Phipie and of course, Pease Pudding specialist Pete’s Puddin’, along with many more.
