A TEENAGER has been assaulted at a bus stop in Newton Aycliffe this morning.

The 15-year-old was making her way to school and waiting at the Williamfield Way bus stop for the number 5 Arriva bus at about 7.40am.

A man riding a mountain bike turned left from Burnhill Way on to Williamfield Way and stopped at the bus stop before resting his bike against it.

The man approached the girl and tried to start a conversation and grabbed her wrist when she tried to leave.

The girl was able to free herself before running away through Hawkshead Place to the safety of a relative’s house.

The suspect is described as white and aged between 60 and 70 years old. He is about 5ft 10 with short white hair and speaks in a northern accent, but not local to Newton Aycliffe.

It is thought he was wearing a grey jumper and riding a dark blue mountain bike with yellow or green writing in the bars. No make or model is known at present.
