THE Bishop of Durham will be visiting an adventure centre, industrial sites and shops in a bid to get to know parishioners.

The Right Revd Paul Butler is taking part in prayer walks in Weardale in County Durham this weekend.

He said: "I love Prayer Walks because they are a great way to discover an area, meet its people and pray together with them.

“As we walk and pray together we seek to bless and be blessed by, the people and communities that we visit. I hope that people will join me. It is fun, enjoyable and really rewarding to do.”

This is the fifth year the bishop has led prayer walks in the Durham Diocese.

The prayer walk starts on Thursday and continues until Sunday.

The Weardale area prayer walk will see Bishop Butler visit a broad array of rural settings across the dale.

Among the places he will visit include local shops, a care home, rural agricultural and industrial sites.

He will also be visiting Weardale Adventure Centre, where he will be taking to the water in a kayak, alongside his wife Rosemary and school children from the area.
