PLANS have been unveiled for a major housing development in Blackhall Colliery.

Gleeson Homes has applied to Durham County Council seeking outline permission for the construction of 123 family homes at Hesleden Road.

The development will comprise a mix of two, three and four-bedroom semi-detached and detached homes.

An outline application for the building of up to 97 homes on the site was recommended for approval at a planning committee meeting in 2017, subject to a funding agreement.

A Gleeson Homes spokesperson said: "We are looking forward to starting work on this £16 million housing project, which will help the local economy. We will be employing local people and building homes for local people.

"We will be recruiting building workers in the near future and we would also like to hear from younger people who would like an apprenticeship.

"As part of our community matters programme we will be looking for a junior sports team so that we can provide sponsorship and we hope to hear from someone locally."
