A STORMING show from Little Mix opened the Sunday of Radio 1's Big Weekend in Middlesbrough this afternoon, prompting rave reviews on social media.

The group, two of whom hail from the North-East, wore dramatic green and black outfits, and ran through many of their biggest hits, including Woman Like Me and Shout Out to my Ex.

The show prompted rave reviews on social media.

The girl group opened the third day of the music festival in Middlesbrough as the sun finally came out for the thousands of revellers.

Jesy Nelson, Perrie Edwards, Jade Thirlwall and Leigh-Anne Pinnock opened their explosive set with their songs Salute and Power.

Their set was filled with energy and full dance routines, the four stars barely stopping to catch their breath.

Speaking to the crowd at Stewart Park, Thirlwall said she was not sure if the audience would be loud enough as Little Mix were the first act of the day.

She told them: "You actually are one of the best crowds we've ever had, thank you. I think it's because they're northern."

Radio 1's Scott Mills told The Northern Echo how amazing the fans in Middlesbrough have been.

He revealed he was trying to get out of the park last night and the security guards sent him to a place where there was a huge fence - and he still couldn’t get out. So two local woman offered him a ‘hoggy’ - a leg-up.

He said: ‘They were super friendly. I climbed over the fence with their help and one of them suddenly said ‘oh my god you’re Scott Mills’. She said ‘oh my god I’ve got the imprint of your foot on my hand’.

"I do genuinely think the people are so so nice here. We’ve had a great weekend."

Ellie Goulding, Sean Paul, The 1975 and Rita Ora are also in the Big Weekend's Sunday line-up, while former CBBC presenter and current Radio 1 DJ Katie Thistleton told us how much she loves Middlesbrough after spending a week here.
