A MOTORCYCLIST has suffered serious injuries following a crash with a car.

The 70-year-old man was riding a Suzuki GSF 650 on the eastbound side of the A689 near the Cumbrian border when he was involved in a collision with a silver Volkswagen Passat travelling in the opposite direction.

He sustained serious injuries in the collision, which happened at 3.40pm Wednesday around half a mile west of Killhope Lead Mine, and was airlifted to the Royal Victoria Infirmary, in Newcastle.

The male driver of the Passat and his three passengers received minor injuries.

Anyone who witnessed the collision, or has any dashcam footage of the vehicles in the lead up to the incident, is asked to call Durham Constabulary on 101, quoting incident number 257 of May 22.
