AN animal rights group took part in a peaceful protest outside George Bolam Foods in Sedgefield this morning.

Members of the Darlington and Teesside Animal Save group held posters in the hopes of promoting animal rights.

Group member Jennifer Brown said: “We are not here to protest against the shop, we are here because we see the animals in the trucks and we’d like to show them some compassion.

“We don’t want to cause any trouble and just want to bear witness to the animals before they are slaughtered.

“We are trying to show people the reality because all they see is the meat in the supermarkets.”

The protest was part of the global Save Movement which works to raise awareness about the plight of farmed animals.

Members hold peaceful protests regularly across the region - they visit markets and livestock businesses.
