A MAN has been arrested after a shop worker was threatened with an air pistol during an attempted robbery.

RSK Convenience Store on Staithes Road, Dormanstown, near Redcar, was targeted at around 7.10am on Sunday.

A Cleveland Police spokeswoman said: "A male entered the store and threatened a 46-year-old woman with what police believe is an air pistol.

"The woman confronted the male and managed to remove him from the store before police were alerted. She suffered minor injuries which did not require medical treatment.

"The suspect made off empty handed along Staithes Road in the direction of Broadway East on a green pedal cycle.

"A 37-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery. He remains in police custody at this time."

Officers are conducting reassurance patrols in the local area.
