WORK is progressing improving part of the passenger experience at a principal station on the Main East Coast Railway line.
The transformation of the underpass at Durham station is scheduled for completion next month, creating, a “cleaner, brighter and more welcoming environment” for passengers arriving at Durham.
Funded by both the London North Eastern Railway (LNER) and Durham County Council, work began in February creating a new-look walk way, with improved LED lighting and decorative wall panels featuring images of local landmarks, chosen by members of staff at the station.
Vehicle access between southbound and northbound sides of the station is temporarily prevented, but pedestrians can still use the walkway.
