SEVERAL vehicles have been entered overnight in the Flambard Drive area of Bishop Auckland.

Police are encouraging motorists and homeowners to make sure their cars and doors are locked.

They believe suspects have been trying car door handles and also doors on residential properties.

This has led to a number of items having been stolen from porches or inside vehicles.

Detective Sergeant Clare Lambert from Bishop Auckland Criminal Investigation Department said: "Bishop Auckland C.I.D. are actively investigating these incidents and will make sure any persons identified are dealt with swiftly and firmly.

"In the meantime, we would encourage people to make their homes and vehicles as difficult to enter as possible by keeping them secure.

"Please report any information to Durham Police via the 101 number and ask for either the C.I.D. team or the Neighbourhood Team"
