A WOMAN was kicked from a train onto a station platform after challenging a man who was throwing coins at her.

It happened on a train which was travelling between Newcastle and Chester-le-Street on Saturday, April 6.

The woman was kicked in the chest and landed on the platform, causing bruising to her chest, elbow and hip.

A spokesperson for the British Transport Police (BTP) said the man was throwing coins at a woman following a verbal altercation on board the 10.22pm service from Newcastle.

He added: "At Chester-Le-Street the man threw another coin, which provoked the woman to challenge his behaviour.

"The man then proceeded to kick the woman harshly in the chest, causing her to fall from the train and onto the platform. "She sustained bruising to her chest, elbow and hip."

Officers would like to speak to a man in connection with the incident, who was travelling on the train and may be witnesses the assault.
