YOUNG players are getting their game on song, as the season reaches a climax in the world of ping pong.
Some of the region’s top teenage table tennis players were in action over the Bank Holiday weekend against strong opposition from across the North and Scotland.
Bishop Auckland Table Tennis Club hosted the event, which at any one time saw up to ten games being played in the sports hall at their regular venue, Bishop Barrington Table Tennis Club, in the town.
Among North-East winners in the four male and female age group categories, were Adam Webster, from Ormesby, who beat club-mate Ben Savage 3-0 in the junior boys’ final.
Eve Witterick, also from Ormesby, won at both under-18 and under-15 levels, beating host club players Amy Mold and Anya Milne, in the respective finals, while Bishop Auckland’s Jake Hoggarth was a losing under-15 finalist.
Matt Porter, head coach and chairman of the Bishop Auckland club, said the event went well, with a strong line-up of players, all displaying good sportsmanship.
He added that it provided a good level of competition for competitors going on to play in their various end of season national championships.
