STROKE survivors will be celebrating the launch of a new voluntary group aimed at supporting people as they rebuild their lives.

The Bowburn and District Stroke Support Group will be joined by Mayor and Mayoress of Durham, Councillor John Lethbridge and Mrs Sandra Lethbridge, for the launch at Bowburn Community Centre, in Durham Road, Bowburn, at xxx Friday 10 May,

The group has been created in partnership with the Stroke Association and will be run by local volunteers. It will meet from 1.30pm to 3.30pm every other Friday at Bowburn Community Centre.

Anyone, who has been affected by stroke – a serious life-threatening medical condition that occurs when the blood supply to part of the brain is cut off – is invited to come along and get involved.

Hannah Parrington, volunteering and community manager at the Stroke Association, said: “The group members are all different ages and from different backgrounds, but they have one thing in common – they’re stroke survivors.

“The condition can be absolutely devastating, but with the right help and support, people can make rebuild their lives, and that’s what this group is all about.

We’d love stroke survivors and carers to come along to the newly launched group and find out more.”

Bowburn and District Stroke Support Group is a Stroke Association voluntary group where members can share their experience of stroke and provide mutual support.
