A MAN accused of a street-mugging robbery remained at large for three-and-a-half months after failing to answer court bail.

But, Anthony Cook has finally been brought before a judge after being arrested on a bench warrant, issued after his failure to appear at Durham Crown Court, for a plea hearing on January 9.

Produced from the court cells, he admitted failing to appear for the January hearing, and then, also, admitted the robbery, committed in Durham Road, Chilton, on March 9, last year.

He is said to have followed, then punched and kicked a man leaving the Wheatsheaf pub, before taking bottles of alcohol and his phone.

The 33-year-old defendant, of Durham Road, Chilton, was remanded in custody pending a sentencing hearing, on Thursday May 9.
