A POLICE boss is set to take part in a sleepout in aid of a homeless charity.

Ron Hogg, Durham Police, Crime and Victims’ Commissioner will be giving up his home comforts and braving the elements for one night to sleep outdoors in the iconic cloisters of Durham Cathedral.

Mr Hogg will be joining more than 40 others from local business and the leadership community for the CEO SleepOut Durham.

The event is to raise awareness and vital funds to help and support homeless and vulnerable people in our local area.

Mr Hogg said: "I am happy to support this fundraiser, as one night of discomfort for me could end homelessness for a vulnerable person in our area.

"I thank those who have already donated and encourage others to get involved and donate, as the charities do exceptional work across our area."

CEO Sleepout was formed in 2013, and to date has helped to raise more than £2million for charities and causes that work hard to tackle poverty and homelessness in cities across the UK. The money raised at each sleep out is used to fight homelessness and poverty in each of the host cities, therefore the money raised from the Durham event goes straight back to helping vulnerable people in the Durham area. The Durham sleepout will be supporting Durham Action on Single Housing Ltd, Changing Lives, Durham Christian Partnership, Sanctuary 21 and Hospitality & Hope.
