A CHURCHES group staged an emotional play to mark Good Friday.
The performance of On This Day attracted an audience of more than 200 people to Market Place in Bishop Auckland, County Durham.
The play, which was written and produced by Jane Crawford, starred Alex Jones as Jesus, and was put on by Bishop Auckland Christian Churches Fellowship (BACCF).
The group has organised events to mark Good Friday for a number of years but this is the first time they have produced a full-blown play.
The Reverend Eileen Harrop, of St Anne’s Church, said: "People were very moved by the performance which was appropriate for this sombre occasion.
"There was also quite a strong reaction against ot with people saying how could you do something so explicit.
"Crucifixion is shocking."
The Bishop of Durham, the Right Reverend Paul Butler attended and gave an address.
Rev Harrop added: "On behalf of BACCF and all our partners we wish a happy Easter to everyone."
