NORTHALLERTON Mowbray Rotarians have chosen the new cancer centre at the Friarage Hospital as their main charity this year to benefit from their forthcoming mid-summer ball.

The Sir Robert Ogden Macmillan Cancer Centre which cost £10m was opened at the hospital last year offering the latest cancer treatments in a specially designed building.

Sir Robert, aYorkshire philanthropist had helped fund the centre alongside South Tees NHS trust and the Macmillan cancer charity.

Janet Crampton, president of the Rotary Club of Northallerton Mowbray, said the centre had been her cause of choice this year.

She added: "The centre is a leading-edge addition to the services offered by our much-loved local hospital and the club has been committed to supporting it for two years. In that time we have raised more than £3,000 and we hope to make another major contribution from the proceeds of the ball."

Money made will be split between the cancer centre and rotary charities. The ball is being held at Solberge Hall on Friday June 28. Tickets are £45 with a three course meal, live music and a raffle. Contact Anthony Wood on 07885 654795 or at anthony@scrutonvillage.co.uk

"We hope as many people as possible will join us in support of the centre which is already providing an invaluable service to cancer sufferers in our area," added Janet Crampton.
