DANCING teams from across the country used a town centre to showcase their renowned tradition.

Morris dancing teams from Richmond, York, Saltburn, East Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, Glasgow and Darlington, performed a jive of different dances for the general public on Saturday and Sunday.

In total, seventeen teams of dancers took over parts of Darlington in events across in Bondgate, Skinnergate, East Row, Houndgate, Blackwellgate and Joseph Pease Place.

The dancers, whose costumes each consisted jingling bells embedded within their vibrant outfits, performed a mix of traditional dancing styles such as Border, Step Clog, Rapper, Longsword and Gothic.

Morris dancing has references which dates back to the 15th century.

The morris dancing was organised by Black Diamond Mixed Cotswold Morris and Darlington Borough Council.
