DOZENS of people are expected to take on a 26-mile walk on Saturday in memory of a popular Dales man.

Friends and family members of Andrew Tobbell, of Barnard Castle, will be taking on the challenge in memory of the 47-year-old who took his own life last year.

The event has been organised by Mr Tobbell's family, who hope to raise at least £5,000 for ManHealth - a community interest company which runs support groups across the North-East to help men with any mental health issues they might have.

Mr Tobbell's brother, Ian Tobbell, said a new group has just opened in Barnard Castle and the family was keen to support it in the hope of helping others.

Walkers will be able to park at Barnard Castle Auction Mart from 7.30am and bacon sandwiches will be available at the town's cricket club before the group start the walk at Scar Top, at 8.30am.

The circular route will include the villages of Cotherstone, Eggleston, Middleton-in-Teesdale, Mickleton and Romaldkirk with the aim of finishing at 7.15pm back at the cricket club for a drink.

Anyone is welcome to join.
