RECOVERY trucks, including a crane, have removed a lorry from a ditch on the southbound carriageway of the A1(M) near Durham.

The lorry left the carriageway, between Chester-le-Street and the Carrville junction, Durham, on Friday morning.

One lane was closed until 10.40am during the removal. The recovery has now been completed and all lanes have been re-opened.

A Durham Police spokesperson said: "A heavy goods vehicle was reported to us as being off the road on the southbound carriageway, just past junction 63 at 5.30am this morning.

"The driver was shaken but uninjured."
