THE creative arts came together ahead of a sold-out musical production this week.

That's after members of The Northern Echo's camera club photographed the cast of Evita during their dress rehearsal on Tuesday ahead of a week of performances.

Evita charts the story of Argentine political leader, Eva Perón, the second wife of Argentine dictator, Juan Perón, from her humble beginnings through to the extraordinary wealth, power and status which ultimately led her to be heralded as the ‘spiritual leader of the nation’ by the Argentine people.

Produced by Andrew Llloyd-Webber and and Tim Rice, the production has come to Durham for the first time at The Gala Theatre, in Durham.

It is performed by members of Durham Musical Theatre Company including chairman Anthony Smith and Shireen Gale as the leading man and woman.

Member and photographer, Derek Smith, said he approached The Northern Echo as he was taking part in the show and would be unable to snap it himself so he wanted to give other budding photographers the opportunity.

And more than a dozen Camera Club members took up the offer, capturing the all-singing, all-dancing cast.
