A DRUNKEN teenager attacked his sister before dragging her to the kitchen and arming himself with a knife, with which he threatening to kill her.

Jack Oughton had earlier been brought in from the street by a relative due to his behaviour on the evening of January 26.

Durham Crown Court was told he turned on his sister when she tried to take him home, but she managed to eventually flee to a neighbour’s home, where she was taken in, having suffered facial, jaw and leg injuries.

Oughton threw the knife away, before being arrested and made no comment in interview.

But the defendant, 18, of Webb Close, Newton Aycliffe, admitted assault causing actual bodily harm, threats to kill and possessing an offensive weapon.

Shaun Dryden, mitigating, said Oughton binged on vodka that night, but has little recollection of his dispute with his family.

“He accepts fully how badly he behaved to his family, particularly his sister.”

Imposing an 18-month sentence in a young offenders’ institution, Judge Christopher Prince told Oughton it was, “a disturbing incident”, causing his sister, “real distress.”

He is forbidden from trying to contact or approach her under a ten-year restraining order.
