A DRIVER who was involved in a crash and then a police chase has been told he is likely to go to prison.

Lee Mason was in his personal-reg Audi TT when he drove dangerously on Hart Lane, Hartlepool, on November 4 last year.

The sports car – LM07MAZ – had earlier damaged a Ford Fiesta on the town’s Marlowe Road and Mason did not report it.

The 38-year-old also failed to give a sample of blood after he was arrested following the pursuit.

Judge Sean Morris adjourned the case until May 3 so a medical report can be obtained, and granted Mason bail.

But the judge told him: “You should understand you are facing a custodial sentence, so for the time being get your house in order.

“You have probably been advised what the courts’ attitudes are towards police chases.”

Mason, of Rydal Street, Hartlepool, admitted dangerous driving, failing to report an accident and failing to provide a specimen.

His barrister, Stephen Constantine, told the court: “He has a sparse history, but nothing for driving. He is clearly at risk in this case.”

Mr Constantine told Judge Morris that there were some medical matters the defence team wanted to explore before sentencing.

However, his request for a probation report was turned down by the judge.
