A JURY is still considering its verdict in the trial of a Newton Aycliffe man accused of murder.

Nathan Robbie Buckland is accused of the murder of Iain Lee, also from the town, who died on September 19 last year.

The 31-year-old suffered a catastrophic head injury after falling and hitting his head on the road in Stephenson Way, Newton Aycliffe, a short distance from The Roundhouse pub.

Both men had been socialising at the pub on the evening of Friday, September 7, and into the early hours of the next day.

It is alleged Mr Buckland punched Mr Lee, causing him to fall backwards, but the 25-year-old denies the charge.

He claims he was trying to calm down Mr Lee and had grabbed his collar, but both men had fallen to the ground after he tripped.

Mr Lee died 11 days later in hospital, never having regained consciousness.

Mr Buckland, of Lumley Close, has been standing trial at Newcastle Crown Court.

The jury was sent out to consider its verdict at 2.45pm yesterday and returned to continue deliberations this morning.
