BUSINESS students have been challenged to show their entrepreneurial talents and design a money-saving computer appliance that could net them a £1,000 prize.
Former Education Secretary Justine Greening returned to Sunderland’s Beacon of Light, in the shadow of the Stadium of Light, to see how the students at the Harrison Centre for Social Mobility are progressing.
It was on her last visit, as secretary of state, that Ms Greening joined centre founder, North-East entrepreneur David Harrison, to open the workspace.
The Harrison Centre aims to offer financial advice to charities working with disadvantaged children.
Among tasks set for centre students is a contest to design the app to aid financial management, with the carrot of a £1,000 Harrison Prize.
Ms Greening said the aim was to “unlock students’ potential”.
She described the Beacon of Light, run by Sunderland AFC’s charitable arm, the Foundation of Light, as, “a world-class learning facility”.
