A DRINK-DRIVER who smashed into a traffic light was found guilty after being captured by her own dash cam.

Caroline Jeffery originally denied the offence and said an unknown man she met at Wetherspoons drove her home from the pub then ran from the scene after the crash.

But, footage from the 45-year-old warehouse worker’s dash cam showed her getting out of the driver’s side of her vehicle. CCTV footage from a nearby shop was also used as evidence.

The Argus:

Police were called to the incident involving a white Volkswagen Golf in Crowborough Hill, Crowborough, at about 10.48pm on January 15.

Jeffery failed a roadside breath test so was arrested and charged with driving with 66mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath, almost double the legal limit.

At Worthing Magistrates’ Court on Thursday Jeffery, of Rochester Way, Crowborough, pleaded guilty to the offence.

The Argus:

She was disqualified from driving for 18 months, fined £530, and ordered to pay £200 costs and a £53 victim surcharge.

Photographs taken at the scene show the extent of the damage caused to the traffic lights and the vehicle involved, which included a smashed windscreen.
