DETECTIVES investigating the case of missing grandmother Naheed Khan have forced entry into a disused underground car park in Middlesbrough.

The Thornaby grandmother has not been seen since last May and police are now treating the case as a murder investigation.

Officers will search the site, just off Marton Road, and close to the last sighting of Naheed, throughout today.

The car park is believed to be frequented by drug users and there were signs of drug paraphernalia around the entrance to the site.

Investigating officer, Temporary Detective Chief Inspector Mark Dimelow, said: “It is quite close to where Naheed was last known to have used her bank account.

“It is an obvious area to search and needs discounting from the inquiry so that is why we are searching here today.

“This is just another of a number of areas we need to work through.

The Northern Echo:

“We have had a very good response so far from members of the public from appeals we have launched and I would urge people to keep contacting us, no matter how small the information seems.”

Naheed, 43, had links to Stockton, Middlesbrough and Thornaby.

One of the last possible sightings of her was at the cash machine outside Adils Pizzeria, part of Whitfield Buildings, in Middlesbrough on May 6 at 5.04pm.

• Anyone with information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, should contact Cleveland Police on 101 and say that you have information to help in the Naheed Khan case.
