POLICE are appealing for residents to scour their gardens, wheelie bins and overlooked areas in a bid to find evidence connected to a jewellery shop raid.

A man wearing a crash helmet and a boiler suit stole a “large amount” of jewellery from Bradley’s jewellers in Barker’s Arcade, Northallerton, shortly after 10am on Monday morning.

The suspect made off through the arcade and into the Applegarth, before riding off on a bicycle in the direction of Applegarth Primary School.

The Northern Echo:

The man involved is yet to be traced by North Yorkshire Police officers who have this morning released an urgent appeal to residents in the area.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Further to the earlier appeal, North Yorkshire Police would like to encourage residents in the Springwell Lane, Weavers Green and Malpas Road area of Northallerton to check their gardens, wheelie bins and surrounding areas for any discarded crash helmets or overalls.

“If found, please contact Northallerton Police Station and quote crime number 121900439981”.

An earlier appeal released by officers asked for any witnesses to contact them with any immediate sightings of the man dressed in overalls and a crash helmet, last seen riding a bicycle.

The store was previously raided in June 2012 when axe-wielding robbers staged a daylight robbery during the half-term holidays.

Jewellery was taken from the store, with robbers understood to have made off in a red van later found abandoned behind South Parade, Northallerton.
