CHILDREN have been investigating after a mysterious space ship crashed into their school.

Pupils from St Hild’s Primary School, in Gilesgate, Durham, have been finding out what happened after receiving a message from an alien.

The Northern Echo:

PCSO Andrea Hodgson and police volunteer Helen Curtis-Fletcher joined in by helping them look for clues.

The event was organised as part of the school’s creative writing curriculum.

Year six pupils spent time working on their journalistic skills by writing newspaper reports, while children in year five were inspired to write thriller stories set in space and those in year four designed spaceships and wrote adverts for them. Younger children had a go at writing warnings to local residents about the strange events.

The Northern Echo:

Teacher Nicola Banks said: “The innovative and fun approach to the event has really helped to develop pupils’ imaginations and vocabulary across the week and develop their enthusiasm for writing.”
